Duluth FC secured its ninth consecutive NPSL win of the season on Wednesday, June 21, on the road against the Sioux Falls Thunder. The BlueGreens’ latest win, a 1-0 victory, did come with some challenges.
The night’s only goal came in the 28th minute as Dylan Zavatini got his head on a corner kick to score his second goal of the season. Zavatini’s previous goal was also a header in the box. The defender was there when Duluth needed him, and would prove to be one of the key performers of the night as Duluth secured another big clean sheet.
1-0 at halftime, the second half saw many storylines continue between Duluth and Sioux Falls. The Thunder did well to put chances on the board, but no goals came as goalkeeper Ezekiel Foltz put together a strong performance against his former club.
Duluth also had their chances to extend the lead, but were unable to find the attacking flow that’s led to five-plus goals in several recent games. The 1-0 final result is one of Duluth’s closest score lines in recent weeks, but far from a bad sign as the BlueGreens now secure at least a top two finish for the 2023 NPSL North regular season.
Duluth now have nine different players with at least two goals this season, a show that not only are multiple players taking part, but many of the BlueGreens are having positive seasons in the final third.
