Current Super Cup records:

Duluth FC: 0-0

MNUFC U19’s: 1-0

Duluth FC will take part in an exciting slice of history this Wednesday, hosting the Minnesota United U19 team in the Minnesota Super Cup. The Super Cup brings together clubs from different clubs in different leagues across Minnesota, allowing high-performing clubs to face off and see who comes out on top.

The Super Cup has two groups. Duluth’s group, Group A, consists of Duluth, Minneapolis City, and Minnesota United’s U19 team. Group B includes Med City of the NPSL, Vlora FC of the UPSL, and St. Croix Legends of USL League Two. The top two teams from each group, after each team has played eachother once, will move on to a playoff knockout tournament. The final will be hosted at the neutral ground of Macalester College Stadium on July 29.

Duluth’s opponent on Wednesday is indeed the Minnesota United U19’s, which currently compete in the MLS NEXT youth league. Some of the team’s best talents have appeared for MNUFC2, the professional reserve team for Minnesota United’s MLS side.

The U19’s most recently competed in the 2022-23 season of the MLS NEXT U19 Mid-America Division, playing 12 games against fellow MLS academies and other academy teams, including Minnesota’s Shattuck-St. Mary’s. MNUFC ended that 12 game run with 15 points and a 4-5-3 WLD record.

The Minnesota United U19’s impressed in their first Minnesota Super Cup game, beating Minneapolis City 1-0 on the road. A win for Duluth would make the BlueGreens tied at the top of the group with MNUFC, a road game against Minneapolis City providing the decider. Duluth, of course, enters the game following a six-game win streak in the NPSL.

While Duluth FC has previously played MNUFC2 in a closed-door friendly, Wednesday’s game will provide a unique chance for fans to watch Duluth face off with the Loons. Come support Duluth FC and help the BlueGreens show Minnesota United the beautiful game in the beautiful city!
