Duluth FC traveled to Minneapolis on July 18 to face long-time rivals Minneapolis City SC in their second group game of the 2023 Minnesota Super Cup. Duluth tied their first game in the tournament 1-1 with Minnesota United’s U19’s. Minneapolis City went on to win a hectic game 1-3, ending Duluth’s run in the Super Cup.
The first half saw the BlueGreens come inches away from an opening goal after seeing two shots blocked off the line by the Crows. Duluth’s eleven provided a combination of opportunities for both regular starters and players who had fewer minutes in 2023. Minneapolis City then responded with a goal from a free kick deep in the defensive third and the match stayed 0-1 going into halftime.
Duluth answered in the second half after Kostya Domaratskyy earned a free kick on the edge of the box. The Ukranian executed a perfect free kick, finding the far top right corner and scoring his seventh goal of the season. The goal also makes Domaratskyy the sole holder of the fourth place spot in Duluth’s list of all time goalscorers with 12.
Minneapolis City earned a penalty late in the game to retake the lead despite a strong performance on the day from goalkeeper James Price, and added to that lead soon after with a header that teased the offside line but counted and made it 1-3. That result officially ends Duluth FC’s 2023 season.
Duluth FC would like to take one more opportunity to thank James Price, Josh Bellamy, Jake Starling, Santiago Erazo, Dylan Zavatini, Andres Solares, Felipe Santos, Cian Gantley, Tyler Limmer, Kostyantyn Domaratskyy, Felipe Arteaga, Felipe Oliveira, Myles Edmonson, Rory Doyle, Conor Behan, Colin O’Mahony, Tom Akinola, Paul Bobai, Liam Pritchard, Manny Morales, Jake Kidd, Ken Pryde, Stefan Roeb, Zach Tiemayer, Aaron Folkert, Alex Paredes, Ezekiel Foltz, and Parker Chastey for their service to the club this season.
We would also like to thank Head Coach Sean Morgan for another wonderful year with the club, as well as his coaching staff of Craig Chudley, Greg Gilmore, Barry Chastey, and Corey Bulheller.
