Duluth saw a positive four game winning streak ended last weekend with a 4-2 loss to Joy Athletic in St. Louis Park on June 22, their first loss in all competitions since falling to St. Croix on June 4. The night started well for Duluth with Edy Nys scoring an early goal to make it 1-0. Joy, however, responded well with three goals before halftime to lead 3-1 at the break.
Duluth made several changes early in the second half in pursuit of a comeback, but a fourth Joy goal made that climb more difficult. Nys did score a second goal late to continue a strong individual season, but it was the last goal of the night as Joy won 4-2.
Nys now has 12 goals from eight games, a count that not only puts him up as one of the top producers this season and in the club’s history, but also has him as one of the top competitors in the NPSL Golden Boot race.
Duluth’s next game is at home against the MN Blizzard on June 26. It will be the team’s second-to-last regular season game this season.
