Duluth FC opened their 2024 NPSL season tonight with a 3-0 win against Joy Athletic at Public Schools Stadium. The win extended the BlueGreens’ strong record against now-familiar face Joy Athletic, who joined the NPSL in 2021. The match saw goalkeeper Jamie Colvell, Nathan Porter, Edouard Nys, Aksel Battal, and Charlie Wood make their NPSL debuts in the starting XI for Duluth as the club navigated making the most of a roster full of both veterans and new names, while some pieces are yet to fall into place.

Duluth opened the scoring in the 25th minute after a through ball from Liam Pritchard found Tyler Limmer, who scored on his second attempt to make it 1-0. Limmer was one of the team’s best attacking threats last season. His goal was enough to lead 1-0 at half time.

Joy defended with grit early in the second half, keeping the game close despite good chances for Duluth. However, eventually finding themselves a man down, the Goats fell victim to smart substitutions from head coach Sean Morgan and his staff.

Duluth’s Felipe Santos came off the bench and earned a penalty in the 84th minute. He took the penalty, comfortably tucking the shot into the right side of the net to make it 2-0. Limmer found one more goal in the 89th minute, assisted by Manny Morales, to make it 3-0. Morales had recently come off the bench as well.

Limmer ended the game with two goals for the night and season, 12 overall in his two-season career at Duluth FC, tying him with Kostya Domaratskyy as the club’s fourth-best all-time goal scorer. Duluth will return to the pitch on May 18th to face Siouxland, a newcomer to the NPSL North Conference.
